THOMAS KNIGHT AND MORGAN FRAME NAMED MR. AND MISS MAINE BASKETBALL 2009
BANGOR, Maine (March 13, 2009) – This evening, the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) unveiled the 2009 Mr. and Miss Basketball. The announcement was made at the Maine McDonald’s® High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games award banquet at Husson University in Bangor, Maine.Morgan Frame of Waterville High School High School received the Miss Basketball award. Mr. Basketball honors went to Thomas Knight of Dirigo High School.
“This is the highest individual award presented to a male and female basketball player in the state,” explained Peter Murray, president of the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches. “It is awarded for commitment, dedication and excellence throughout the player’s high school career.”
Morgan Frame has led Waterville High School to one of the most successful runs in recent Maine schoolgirl basketball history, capping off her career with three consecutive Class B state championships and 66 straight victories — 69 in a row counting three Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference title games. The daughter of Doug and Angela Frame, Morgan plans to continue her basketball career and studies next year on a full basketball scholarship at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.
One of the most highly recruited players from Maine in recent years, Thomas Knight led Dirigo to the 2009 Western Maine Class C title and a 74-10 record throughout career with coach Gavin Kane’s club. The son of Karl and Kathy Knight, Thomas will continue his basketball career on scholarship at Notre Dame.
Other finalists for the honor of Miss Basketball were Diana Manduca of Deering High School and Sloane Sorrell of Noble High School.
Other finalists for the title of Mr. Basketball included: Mick Distasio of Cheverus High School, and Gordon Fischer of Camden Hills Regional High School.
Also honored at the MABC Awards Banquet were the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Players, Regional Foul Shooting Champions, All-Star Coaches, members of the All-State Academic Team, the Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game recipients, MABC Contributor Award honoree, and the MABC Media Award honoree.
The 2009 Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Games will be played at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor on Saturday, March 14. The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state's A/B and C/D Boys and Girls divisions.
Game Day tickets are available at the door and are good for all four Games. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students, children and senior citizens.
