BANGOR, Maine (March 12, 2010) – This evening, the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) presented its Ron Brown Media Award to Hugh Bowden of The Ellsworth American.  The award for outstanding coverage of Maine high school basketball was presented at the 2010 Maine McDonald’s® High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games awards banquet at Husson University in Bangor, Maine.


“Since Hugh Bowden joined The Ellsworth American more than 25 years ago, he has tirelessly covered high schools sports - including play-offs and tournament appearances - for the seven high schools across Hancock County,” said Dwayne Carter, Boys Varsity Coach at George Stevens Academy. “We are honoring him this weekend with MABC’s Ron Brown Media Award for his commitment to exceptional high school basketball reporting, editing and photography.”

In addition to sports editor, reporter and photographer at The Ellsworth American, Bowden holds the title of Executive Editor and sits on its board of directors. He received the 1996 Media Award from the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Over the years, Bowden and The Ellsworth American have received numerous awards for both sports writing and photography from the Maine Press Association.

Also honored at the MABC Awards Banquet were members of the All-State Academic Team, the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Players, All-Star Coaches, the Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award
recipients, the MABC Contributor Award honoree, and Mr. and Miss Basketball.

12:15pm - 1:00pm        Awards Presentation & McDonald’s Melt-Down Half Time Show

1:15pm  -  2:30pm        Boys A/B Game

2:30pm  - 2:45pm        Slam Dunk Competition

3:00pm  - 4:15pm        Boys C/D Game

Game Day tickets are available at the door and are good for all four Games.
Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students, children and senior citizens.
