AUGUSTA, Maine (February 18, 2009) -- Local Maine McDonald's Owner/Operators and the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) today announced eleven semi-finalists for the 2009 Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball Awards, presented to one outstanding male high school senior and one outstanding female high school senior basketball player in the state. The award, the state's highest basketball honor, recognizes the players’ performance on the court, as well as their contribution to their team and to Maine basketball. Additional semi-finalists from the Western A and B Divisions will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 19 at a 2:00 p.m. news conference in Portland.

Five of the ten semi-finalists for Miss Basketball are:

  • Claire Baecher – Brunswick High School
  • Morgan Frame – Waterville High School
  • Kenni Norton – Mt. Abram High School
  • Madeleine Park – George Stevens Academy
  • Emily Pelletier – Fort Kent High School

Six of the ten semi-finalists for Mr. Basketball are:

  • Gordon Fischer – Camden Hills Regional High School
  • Alex Kee – Morse High School
  • Thomas Knight – Dirigo High School
  • Ben Russell – Mt. Blue High School
  • Cal Shorey – Calais High School
  • Corey Therriault – Edward Little High School

Mr and Miss Basketball Semi-Finalists

The six finalists (3 girls, 3 boys) for Mr. and Miss Basketball will be announced after the high school basketball state tournaments are complete. The award winners will be announced at the Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Banquet on the evening of Friday, March 13, at Husson University's Newman Gymnasium. The All-Star players, All-Star coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul Shooting Champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients and the MABC Contributor Award honoree also will be recognized at the awards banquet.

The 2009 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All Star Basketball Games will be held on Saturday, March 14, at Husson University's Newman Gymnasium. Tickets are good for all four games and may be purchased at the door on Saturday, March 14th. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students, children and senior citizens.
